Introducing Temo - Kava from the Solomon Islands

At Bula Kava House, we always strive to bring our loyal customers some of the most unique and exciting kavas from around the world. We couldn’t be more excited to announce the debut of Temo – the very first Solomon Islands’ kava we’ve introduced to our kava menu.

Commonly referred to as “purple” kava in the Solomon Islands due to the color of its stems, Temo offers an incredibly clean and peppery flavor that’s quintessential to many types of Vanuatu kava. However, the flavor profile of Temo is far less bitter on the palate, making it much easier to drink and enjoy for both kava connoisseurs and novices alike.

Temo Combines Potency with Palatability

While the flavor may be mellow, Temo packs quite the punch. One of the stronger kavas we’ve recently added to our Bula menu, we actually use less kava powder than normal when preparing the drink for customers at our Portland kava bar.

Temo offers a nice euphoric boost that gradually eases into a mellow sensation that works to relax the mind and body. Temo makes the perfect everyday drinking kava, good for both daytime and night use. While a little goes a long way, you won’t be disappointed in the quality of this special kava.

Temo has been incredibly popular at our Portland kava bar and for those looking to buy kava online. Unfortunately, our supply of Temo is limited, and we encourage all of our loyal Bula Kava House customers to place their orders while supplies last.

We do have more Temo ordered and on the way, but pandemic-related shipping delays make it hard to determine when more stock will arrive. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy the wonders of Solomon Island kava by ordering your supply of Temo today!

Solomon Islands Emerging as the Home of Exciting New Kavas

For decades, the Western world has enjoyed drinking exceptional kavas from many of the island nations located throughout Oceania. Vanuatu, Tonga, and Fiji have long held the reputation as producing some of the world’s best kavas, but now the Solomon Islands seem ready to take their place among the pantheon of great kava producing nations.

Kava was first introduced to the islands just a decade ago by an Anglican priest who brought cuttings of his favorite Vanuatuan varieties that he began to grow and propagate. While the plants have a similar genetic makeup to their Vanuatuan progenitors, growing in the soil and climate of the Solomon Islands has given Temo its own individual characteristics after just a few generations.

Taking a cue from their Oceanic neighbors, a small group of farmers began planting large quantities of kava for the export and sale. Local farmers have also recently received government backing, as Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare hopes kava can become a cash crop that can enrich the lives of the Solomon Islands’ rural farming communities. Hopefully this means a future where kava farming communities in the Solomon Islands can begin to produce and export kava at the same rate as Vanuatu and Tonga to increase world supply.
